Say Yes: Rewire Your Brain for Possibility

Remember Jim Carrey in Yes Man?
He said yes to everything—and while the outcomes were chaotic and hilarious, they were also eye-opening. Behind the comedy was a powerful truth: saying yes opens the mind to possibilities we hadn’t even considered.
This is something I see all the time in my work offering career coaching for women—especially those returning to work after maternity leave or a career break. When we’re stuck in hesitation or fear, our brains get busy filtering our entire experience through that lens. We literally don’t see the opportunities available to us.
Why? Because the brain filters for what it already believes. If you think, “I’m not ready,” or “there’s nothing out there for me,” that’s exactly what your mind will focus on and reinforce.
But here’s the good news:You can rewire your brain by shifting your focus—starting with one small YES.
Saying Yes Creates New Neural Pathways
When you start saying yes to aligned opportunities, conversations, or even just new thoughts, you send a signal to your brain:
➡️ “Start looking for what’s possible.”
➡️ “Let’s notice what’s working.”
➡️ “We’re building confidence, not avoiding risk.”
This is more than mindset work—it’s mental training. And for career returners, especially working moms navigating change, it can be a game changer.
Try This:
For one day, be intentional about saying yes:
✅ Yes to a new idea
✅ Yes to reaching out to someone in your network
✅ Yes to carving out time for your own growth
✅ Yes to believing you’re ready—even if it’s a bit scary
You don’t have to leap all at once. Tiny yeses create big shifts.
