Juggling Work, Motherhood and the Summer Holidays: Finding Balance as a Working Mum

The summer holidays have arrived - and with them, that familiar mix of joy, chaos, logistics, and the ever-elusive balance.
Right now, I’m writing this from a bench at soft play. My two boys are deep in a game of hide and seek somewhere within the colourful, multi-level maze of foam and tunnels. They’re laughing, negotiating, running. And I’m sitting here - grateful.
Grateful to be present.
Grateful to be working in a way that allows for this moment.
Grateful to have my in-laws visiting from South Africa and to share this time as a family.
But let me be clear: getting here hasn’t been easy.
The Reality of Summer for Working Mums
If you’re a working mum, you already know the summer holidays are not always the restful break they sound like. The six-week juggle of childcare, quality time, travel, work responsibilities, and (if we’re lucky) moments of rest - is real. And while there’s joy in it, there’s often pressure too.
As a self-discovery coach for mums, I often hear the same themes from women I work with:
“I want to be present with my children, but work doesn’t stop.”
“I feel guilty stepping away from my business, but also guilty when I’m not ‘fun mum’.”
“I’ve built flexibility into my work, but I still struggle to switch off.”
Sound familiar?
Creating a Life That Works for You
For me, building a career that allows for this flexibility has been a conscious, and often uncomfortable, journey. It’s taken inner work - redefining success, setting boundaries, learning how to hold space for myself as much as I do for others.
That’s why I’m so passionate about helping other mums do the same.
Whether you’re running your own business, working freelance, or navigating employment, flexibility isn’t just about time. It’s about designing a life that supports the version of motherhood you want to live - while still feeling fulfilled, purposeful and supported as a woman beyond the role of ‘mum’.
So, How Are You Really Doing This Summer?
I want to ask you - not as a coach, but as a fellow mum in the middle of it all:
How are you really feeling this summer?
Are you managing to be present with your children, while also keeping work ticking along?
Do you get time to enjoy the holidays for yourself, too?
What would feel good enough this season?
There is no perfect formula. And most of us are doing a better job than we give ourselves credit for.
But if you’re craving more ease, more presence, more connection to yourself - that’s where the work begins. And it doesn’t need to wait until September.
Want Support in Reconnecting With You?
If you’re a mum navigating the juggle and wondering where you fit into the picture, I’d love to support you.
Through my self-discovery coaching for mums, I help women explore who they are beyond motherhood - and create lives and careers that feel deeply aligned.
This summer, I’ll be working in a reduced capacity so I can enjoy time with my boys - but I have limited 1:1 coaching spots open for those who are ready to reclaim a little space for themselves.
If that’s you, feel free to get in touch / book a free discovery call
- and let’s talk about what you need.
You deserve to thrive, not just survive the summer.
